Eagles Fly Past Ragin Cajuns in Three

STATESBORO – Georgia Southern delivered a dominant performance on Thursday night, sweeping Louisiana 3-0 at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles controlled the match from start to finish, taking straight sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) to improve to 19-7 on the season and 10-5 in Sun Belt play.

"I thought the energy in Hanner was really good tonight, and I appreciate all the FSL guys coming out to support the team tonight," head coach Chad Willis said. "Overall, we were really balanced offensively, and we got progressively better as the match went on. I thought the key to the match was our serving. We put on the pressure with our block. Defensively, we dug over 20 balls a set and finished with 2.3 blocks per set. So all around, just a great team effort. We need to do it again tomorrow, and it starts with the service line."

Georgia Southern's offense was efficient throughout, hitting .266 as a team and piling up 39 kills on just 14 errors.

Reagan Barth led the attack with 11 kills on 25 swings, while Maggie Sale and Alex Myers each added seven. Setter Kirsten Barrett steered the offense with 29 assists and also contributed three service aces.

Defensively, Lydia Seymour and the front line made their presence felt with five blocks as Georgia Southern held the Ragin' Cajuns to a .070 hitting percentage. The Eagles controlled the back row with strong positioning and clean first touches, led by Barrett's 14 digs and steady support from Maddie Cugino's 15 and Mayte Camacho's 8.

Louisiana struggled to find momentum offensively, tallying 30 kills but committing 21 errors. Marlee Ervin was a bright spot with a team-high 14 kills on 32 attempts. Cailin Demps and Jazmine Gaston added three kills each, while Kennedy Gustafson led the back row with nine digs.

The Eagles steadily increased their efficiency each set, hitting .345 in the third to close out the sweep convincingly. The win keeps Georgia Southern rolling as they approach the final stretch of conference play.
