STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team prepares to host the College of Charleston Cougars for the second-consecutive midweek contest on Tuesday, March 26. Action from J.I. Clements Stadium is set to kick off at 6 p.m.
Georgia Southern carries a 11-12 record into the contest after taking a Sun Belt Conference against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles two games to one. Southern's offense put up 13 runs on the Golden Eagles in game one, including two grand slams from
Cade Parker and
Jarrett Brown to end the game early in run-rule fashion. The Eagles had not hit two grand slams in one game since May 10, 2008, when the Eagles beat UNCG 10-9 thanks to two grand slams. While dropping game two, the Eagles leaned on a complete game effort from
Ty Fisher to keep the USM offense quiet and take the series by a final score of 3-1. College of Charleston comes into the game with a 14-8 record after dropping a Coastal Athletic Association series to North Carolina A&T. In that series, the Cougars were shut out in game one, 5-0, before rebounding to win game two, 7-2. The Aggies put up 18 runs in game three to win 18-4 and take the series from the Cougars.
This is the second meeting between the two teams this season. The Cougars took down the Eagles 8-6 in last week's contest. Southern managed to close the game late in the game at 7-6, but an insurance run by the Cougars was too much to overcome in the loss.
Georgia Southern Athletic Marketing will host Game Show Night during the game, with in-venue games based on popular game shows, such as Jeopardy and The Price is Right.
The Eagles will turn to righty
Ga'von Wray for his third start of the reason. Wray sports a 4.76 ERA with no record, but did earn a save in his first appearance of the season against Maryland. The Cougars will send out LHP Hayden Thomas for the game.
