Eagles Pick Up Fourth Straight Win, Defeat Queens (NC) 5-0

Georgia Southern returns to action on Thursday at Wallis, hosting South Carolina State

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Georgia Southern women's tennis took its fourth straight win on Sunday morning, defeating Queens (NC) by a 5-0 score in Charlotte.

The Eagles finished the weekend in North Carolina with a 2-0 record, improving to 10-1 on the season with the win. Queens (NC) remained winless on the year, falling to 0-12. Georgia Southern returns home for its next action on Thursday, hosting South Carolina State in a 1 p.m. match at the Wallis Tennis Center.

Georgia Southern collected the doubles point against the Royals with a 6-0 win by Silvia Martinez and Lindsay Tulenko at No. 1 doubles, as well as a 6-2 win by Paula Hijos and Nanaka Kijima at No. 3 doubles.

The Eagles got a quick point at No. 4 singles as Nanka Kijima's opponent was forced to retire after just three games played. Lindsay Tulenko claimed a quick 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, then Ninon Martinache clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Paula Hijos added a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles for the final margin.

"I'm very proud of the team," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "It seems like we have been playing so many road matches this year and we are excited to be able to have a little bit of a homestand coming up. Lindsay and Silvia were on fire today in doubles. And it was great seeing Pauli and Nana dominate today on their first doubles action of the season. We had really good straight-set wins from Ninon, Lindsay and Pauli, where they had the chance to really enforce their games. Overall, I feel like the team is in a good place at this point of the season and we are eager to clean a few more things up as we begin to prepare for Sun Belt Conference play in a couple of weeks."
