STATESBORO, GA.
– Georgia Southern Softball dropped both games of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader to UL Monroe in the inaugural "Bark in the Park Day." Georgia Southern tallied 22 hits in the doubleheader and out-hit the Warhawks in both contests. The Eagles face the Warhawks again on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Watch the game live on GS All-Access at GSEagles.com

"It was a tough day, but I thought we battled back well from some early mistakes," said Head Coach Annie Smith. "I thought we settled down and had some great at bats today. ULM is a very quick team, but we put the ball in play and made them play defense today."

GAME ONE – GS 6 – ULM 8

ULM opened the day with six runs in the first inning, chasing Georgia Southern's starting pitcher Kierra Camp from the game without recording an out. Six runs, five earned against Camp was the damage off four hits, but the Eagle offense responded to out-hit ULM 12-11 in the game en route to 22 total hits in the doubleheader.

The Eagles got two back in the bottom of the first with a two-RBI single from Morgan Robinson. Three more runs crossed in the third inning to cut the advantage to 6-5. A home run from Emily Snider, her third of the season, as well as RBIs from Kaitlyn Johnson and Lexi Allen accounted for the scoring.

The Eagles were poised to score the tying run in the fifth, but a rare triple play ended the Eagle threat in the frame. Alesha Mann flew out to left in an attempted sacrifice fly. Lexi Allen tagged and tried to score, but was cut down at the plate. Sophomore third baseman Michelle Mazur started the play at second and attempted to reach third, but a late jump allowed her to be tagged out. It was the first triple play turned at Eagle Field since April 11th, 2010 when the Eagles turned one against Chattanooga.

ULM tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning with a triple and a sacrifice fly plating the tallies. Robinson delivered her seventh career home run and second of the season in the bottom of the sixth in an attempt to spark a late rally. A double by Johnson gave the Eagles a chance down the stretch, but four-straight outs by ULM ended the game.

GAME TWO – GS 5 – ULM 7

The Eagles took control of game two from the start, scoring three runs in the first inning to get an early march on the Warhawks. A three-run home run by AJ Hamilton gave the hosts an early lead. ULM, however, answered with four runs off four hits and an error in the second to take a 4-3 lead.

ULM added another run in the fourth by playing small-ball following a leadoff walk.

With the bases loaded in the fourth Taylor Rogers delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to level the game at 5-5 and extend her team-best hit streak to 21 games.

Neither team scratched the scoreboard in the fifth or sixth, but a two-out, two-run home run from ULM's Amye Barre gave the Warhawks a 7-5 lead in the seventh. The Eagles were dismissed in order in the seventh as Georgia Southern took its second-straight league loss.
