Track & Field Prepares for the NCAA East Regional

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern track & field team will send three of its members to the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C. The top 5 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.), Kristin Olson (Senoia, Ga.) and Melanie Trumbo (Lilburn, Ga.) will represent the Eagles at the regional.

Anthony qualified for the meet in the long jump at the War Eagle Invitational (4/18) with a mark of 6.06 meters. The junior won the long jump at the SoCon Outdoor Championships and improved on her mark with a jump of 6.08 meters.

Olson advanced to the regional by virtue of winning the 100 meter hurdles at the SoCon Outdoor Championships. The senior hurdler won the event with a time of 14.42.

Trumbo qualified in the high jump at the SoCon Outdoor Championships with a mark of 1.76 meters. The junior was also named Most Oustanding Field Performer.

The 2009 NCAA East Regional is set to begin Friday and run through Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. North Carolina A&T will host the meet at the Irwin Belk Track.
