Sporting News All-America choice at shortstop for Georgia Southern in 1979... Led Eagles to NCAA I Atlantic Regional appearance with 46-15 record... Batted .413 in 61 games junior season and led Eagles with 30 stolen bases, also earning mention on the All-South Independent squad... Drafted in June 1979 free agent by the Chicago Cubs (secondary phase) and elected not return for senior season... Drafted 3 times previously (Los Angeles 1976, Oakland January 1978 and Houston June 1978)... Born July 30, 1958 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida... Has lifetime .264 average entering 1991 season after becoming a regular in the major leagues for eight seasons... Joined elite company after recording 1,000th major league hit early in 1991. Played short stints with the Cubs (1981 and 1982) before being traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1983 and assuming full-time big league status... Top season was 1986 with a .300 batting average in his first year with the Texas Rangers... Returned to White Sox in 1989 and became one of the American League's top second baseman... Committed just nine errors in 750 chances in 1990... Played in the Major Leagues from 1981 through the 1995 season for six different teams (Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers)... Played at the University of Toledo and Valencia Junior College before joining Georgia Southern program... Florida Junior College ‘Player of the Year’ in 1978, batting .406 with 42 stolen base... All-State performer at Wadsworth (Ohio) High School.
