Drafted in June 1979 free agent by the Chicago Cubs (secondary phase) and elected not return for senior season... Drafted 3 times previously (Los Angeles 1976, Oakland January 1978 and Houston June 1978)... Born July 30, 1958 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida... Has lifetime .264 average entering 1991 season after becoming a regular in the major leagues for eight seasons... Joined elite company after recording 1,000th major league hit early in 1991. Played short stints with the Cubs (1981 and 1982) before being traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1983 and assuming full-time big league status...
