Earned Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Georgia Teachers College... Named Most Outstanding Business Student and was elected to Who's Who Among American University and College Students... Student Council President during senior year... Administrative Assistant to Congressman G. Elliot Hagan and United States Senator Herman E. Talmadge from 1961 to 1972... Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the First Congressional District of Georgia in 1972... Served on the Public Works and Transportation Committee and Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee before gaining a seat on the influential Appropriations Committee... Also served on the Defensive Appropriations Subcommittee and as Chairman of the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee...
