A basketball, baseball and track letterman at South Georgia Teachers College from 1934-38. Chosen Georgia Southern's "Alumnus-of-the-Year" for 1991. Taught at and was Dean of the School of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics at Eastern Kentucky University from 1967-79. Has also held positions as honorary president of the southern district of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, president of GSU letterman's Club and a member of the board of directors for the Nashville (Tennessee) Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Served as a United States Naval Commander with the seventh Fleet in the South Pacific during World War II. Following the war, returned to Georgia to coach the football program at Fort Valley High School and was named "Georgia Coach-of-the-Year" in 1948. Continued to coach football, basketball and track at the high school level for several years, winning over 85-percent of his games without the benefits of assistant coaches. Winner of a 1969 NCAA College Football Centennial Award.
