Head Baseball Coach, 1976-99. In 39 seasons as a collegiate head coach, finished with an overall record of 1,257-799 10, which ranks 11th among all time Division I coaches. Owned an 858-581-5 in 24 seasons at GSU after arriving on the Statesboro campus in 1976. Guided the Eagles to one College World Series showing (1990), five NCAA postseason appearances (1979, 1980, 1987, 1990, 1996), four Trans America Athletic Conference championships (1980, 1985, 1986, 1987) and three Southern Conference titles (1993, 1996, 1997). In addition, coached 22 All Americas at Georgia Southern. His No. 1 jersey was the first baseball number to be retired by the school. Also served as head coach at Wake Forest and Florida State and was an active international ambassador for the game of baseball, working the 1984 (hitting coach), 1988 (administrator) and 1992 (IBA representative) Olympic Games while conducting countless clinics all over the globe. Also held a faculty position as Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at GSU.
