Won 396 of 621 games in 25 seasons as basketball coach in 1947-67 and 1977-80. Retired following a 33-year career as winningest college basketball coach in state of Georgia history, with 501-284 record; was 443-240 at Georgia four year colleges and 68-44 at the junior college level. Born April 10, 1914 in Frankfort, Kentucky. A 1936 graduate of Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College with Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. Arrived at Georgia Teachers College in the spring of 1947 as Chairman of Division of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. As head baseball coach in 1948 was 20-10. Invited to Georgia Southern's membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and National Collegiate Athletic Association. Inducted into NAIA Hall of Fame in 1965 and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1983. Eighteen of his first 20 teams at Georgia Southern had winning seasons; six winning over 80 percent and four others more than 75 percent. Is squads won six NAIA District 25 championships and earned spots in the NAIA National Tournament in 1956, 1958, 1959, 1964 and 1966. The 1966 team finished second in the nation. His 1950 squad led country in total offense and the 1952 team set a national scoring record. Atlanta Tip-Off Club named him Georgia College Coach-of-the-Year in 1960, 1964 and 1966. Atlanta Journal honored him with same award in 1964 and 1966.
