Was responsible for resurrecting the football program, by initiating study committee to research feasibility of football in January 1981... Served as President of Georgia Southern from 1978 to 1986... A tireless visionary, he started Nursing, ROTC and Rural Health programs from scratch... Headed active action program with hiring of Georgia Southern's first AA officer... Began university status campaign... Appointed committees to develop doctoral programs and to organize campus planning and development... Born January 7, 1938, in Marlette, Michigan... Received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mathematics from Michigan State and awarded a doctorate in mathematics from the University of California at Riverside... Before coming to Georgia Southern, he was Dean of the School of Sciences and Health Professions at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia... Summed up his strong beliefs, dreams and goals saying, "Our future will be built on two foundations. The first is that all people have worth, and the second is that as a public institution we are here to serve the needs of the people of Georgia, particularly South Georgia. Their best interests are our best interests."
