Called "the greatest college relief pitcher I've ever seen," by Hall of Fame Coach J.I. Clements... Started as reliever for Georgia Southern baseball squad from 1959 to 1962... Compiled a career record of 18-7 with 18 saves... Won 13 consecutive games at one point through three seasons... Pitched GSC to NAIA runner-up title in 1960, winning nine of ten decisions and recording a 1.87 ERA... Helped Georgia Southern to NAIA National Championship in 1962, winning four games and recording eight saves with a 1.69 ERA... Named team MVP as freshman and sophomore and was selected captain in 1961 and 1962... Team ERA leader in 1959, 1960 and 1962... Also played basketball his freshman season... Born October 29, 1940 in Stilson, Georgia... Earned Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern in 1962 and awarded a Master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State in 1968... Has distinguished himself in a long career as a collegiate head baseball coach, including positions at Indian River Junior College, South Georgia College, Brewton-Parker Junior College, Newberry College, and Gardner-Webb College... Also served as Athletic Director at Newberry... Four-time NAIA Region 17 ‘Coach of the Year’ and three-time Georgia Junior College ‘Coach of the Year.’ His teams won two state titles and three area championships.
