Four-sport athlete and letterman at South Geogia Teacher's College from 1931 to 1933. Born December 4, 1911 . In Stapleton, Georgia. Played basketball for three seasons, earning all-conference honors as a guard in 1931 and 1932 after leading 1932 team in scoring. Three-year member of the track team, competing in the vaulting, high jump and high hurdle events. Part of South Georgia Teacher's College boxing team for two years and football squad in 1931. Earned B.S. in Education in 1942 before obtaining Master of Education from Georgia in 1950. Received Kappa Delta Pi Honor Award at Georgia. Served as principal at four Georgia high schools. Headed Metter High School, North Habersham High School, Folkston High School and Reidsville High School. President of the District Principal's High School Association. State Vice President for the 1st Congressional District of the Georgia Education Association. Was Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve, spending time as Recognition and Gunnery Officer on the AU.S. General W.G. Haan. Saw active duty in the Atlantic and Pacific War Theaters. President of the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs and chairman of the Heart Fund Drive, March of Dimes, Polio Committee and P.T.A. Magistrate Judge of Small Claims Court for four years. Active in the silver Haired Legislature for three years (1984-85, 1986-87 and 1988-89). Former President of the Lettermen's Club. Recipient of the 1931 Stapleton High School Academic Excellence.
