Volleyball Honored for Academic Excellence by AVCA
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honored the Georgia Southern Volleyball with the AVCA Team Academic Award. The Eagles were one of two SoCon teams and 102 Division I squads to receive the award for the 2011-12 season after posting a 3.42 team GPA.
“It is a testament to the hard work the kids put in off the court,” stated head coach Chad Callihan about the AVCA Award. “We tried to create a culture of excellence both athletically and academically and the kids have bought in and worked hard.”
The AVCA honored a record 533 teams across all divisions of college volleyball and high school volleyball.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
