Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision to UNC Greensboro

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern women’s tennis team dropped a 2-5 decision on Saturday afternoon to conference foe UNC Greensboro at the Hanner Tennis Complex in Statesboro.

The Eagles (7-7, 1-3 SoCon) lost all three doubles matches as the Spartans earned the doubles point claiming the early advantage. GSU's freshmen tandem of Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) were upended 8-2 by UNC Greensboro’s (3-5, 1-0 SoCon) duo of Valerie Behr and Erica Zabkar from the No. 2 position. It was just their third loss all season as they fall to 10-3 in dual doubles matches.

 

In singles action, GSU notched victories from the No. 3 and No. 6 slots. Beavers was victorious from the No. 3 position downing Behr in straight sets by a 6-2, 6-1 final. Sophomore Jessica Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) improved her dual record to 8-4 ousting Courtney Akel 6-3, 6-2 from the No. 6 seed.

 

GSU is back in action on Monday, March 17, as they travel to Boone, N.C. to compete against Appalachian State. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
