Meisenhelder Concludes Junior Campaign at Zones

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Diver Sara Meisenhelder finished out a stellar junior year at the 2013 NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center on Monday, March 11 and Tuesday March 12. The junior competed in the three and one-meter dive among the best divers in the southeast region.

On day one, Meisenhelder performed in the three-meter dive and finished 36th out of 40 competitors, above two fellow CCSA Divers and one spot below reigning CCSA Champion Meagan Butler from Florida Gulf Coast with a score of 219.45.

"Sara did some great things in her dives but missed the timing on her kick-outs for a couple of her dives," said Diving Coach David Giambra.

On Tuesday, Meisenhelder placed 35th out of 38 divers on the one-meter board, scoring 202.55.

"Sara didn't have the best start but she finished with a couple great dives," said Giambra.

The junior qualified for the meet in January with a school and pool record breaking one-meter dive score of 281.70 against Darton at the Recreation Activity Center in Statesboro, Ga. and is the only Eagle to ever have competed at Zones.

Meisenhelder finished second in the three-meter dive at the CCSA Championships as well as third in the one-meter dive. She also set a new school record for the three-meter dive as a sophomore in 2012.
