Swimming & Diving Team Recognized Among the Top Programs
HARPER WOODS, Mich. - In the Avidasports Performance Rankings released at the end of the 2010-11, the Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team achieved a score of 26.5 to rank 10th among all Division I women's programs. The Eagles' 103.9 percent score in the improvement ranking ranked second nationally behind only Colgate (104.0 percent). Avidasports Performance Rankings provide coaches, teams, media and swimming fans the most innovative and accurate rankings available for swimming and diving teams, measuring performance against its past performances and those of other programs.
Two separate metrics are weighted for the overall score: performance, as measured by the relative ranking of a team's results compared to other collegiate programs, and improvement, as compared to the team's previous best times. This is the first year Georgia Southern earned a top-10 national ranking in any of the three categories.
Florida, with its average races ranking among the top one percent of all collegiate races, was the top program among Division I women's teams in the performance metric with a 5.5 total. Colgate posted the highest total in the improvement metric with Georgia Southern finishing just .01 percentage points behind it. Of the 61 individual swims this year at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships, the Eagles posted 41 lifetime bests, a testament to the commitment to training and hard work this past year.
"This ranking shows how much our team improved at the CCSA Championships as compared to our in-season performances and then ranks our data against other teams. We certainly place a great value on our performances at the CCSA Championships and expect our swimmers and divers to be at their best."
