Softball Gets Two More Shutouts at Magic City Classic
The Eagles (13-10) blanked UAB 2-0 and Birmingham Southern 3-0. Friday GSU defeated Grambling State 8-0 and Alabama State 3-0.
The shutout streak is the longest by the program since 2004.

Junior Michelle Beasley’s (Metter, Ga.) two-run home run in the fifth inning was all the offense the Eagles needed as freshman Megen Smith (Springfield, Ga.) blanked the Blazers on two hits.
Beasley’s shot to center scored junior Amanda Hall (Haddock, Ga.) who led off the inning by reaching on an error.
Smith (6-2) walked six but fanned six for her second shutout of the season.

Seniors Mandi Stophlet (Templeton, Calif.) and Melissa Laliberte (Cobourg, Ontario, Canada) combined on a five-hit shutout and sophomore Jenny Side (Loganville, Ga.) hit a solo homer in the fourth to break a 0-0 deadlock.
Stophlet started and allowed four hits in three innings while Laliberte (5-2) K’d seven in four innings and gave up just one safety.
The Eagles got some insurance runs in the seventh on back-to-back errors.
Georgia Southern completes play Sunday against host Samford at noon EST.
