Softball's Win Streak Ends at Seven

AUBURN, Ala. --- Georgia Southern’s seven-game winning streak was snapped with two losses Friday in the first day of the War Eagle Classic at Auburn University.

The losses drop the Eagles to 16-12 on the season and end the program’s longest undefeated string since 2004. GSU lost 3-0 in the opener to Auburn and 5-4 to Tennessee Tech.

A three-run homer in the third inning was all the offense Auburn would need.

AU scored its three runs on just one hit. A walk and an error put runners on second and third for Tatiana Fernandez who belted a shot over the fence in left-center.

Senior Melissa Laliberte (Cobourg, Ontario, Canada) had little trouble with Tigers outside of the third inning. She struck out eight and allowed just three hits to fall to 7-3.

In the second game of the night, Tennessee Tech rallied from a 4-3 deficit with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. TTU got a RBI groundout to tie the game and a run-scoring single to take the lead.

Sophomore Jenny Side (Loganville, Ga.) accounted for two runs with her team-leading sixth homer of the season. Junior Amanda Hall (Haddock, Ga.) went 2-for-3 at the plate.
