Georgia Southern Travels To Samford For Weekend Tournament

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women's Soccer team will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Tennessee Tech on Friday, Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m. EDT and Kennesaw State on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 12:30 EDT.

The Eagles enter the tournament with a 2-2 record after battling for a 3-2 win over Charleston Southern at home on Sunday, Sept. 5. Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) scored her team-high second goal of the season in the win, while Kyrstin Smith (Acworth, Ga.) and Elena Karakizis (Lilburn, Ga.) found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Katie Merson (Albuquerque, N.M.) continues to improve in goal. The freshman saved four shots against Charleston Southern to push her season total to eight saves. Missy Meyer (Alpharetta, Ga.) has made seven saves on the season.

Tennessee Tech is 1-4-0 on the season, knocking off UNC Asheville 3-1 in its last contest on Sept. 5. Andrea Meloff leads the team with a pair of goals, while Kerri Reid has a goal and two assists. Becca Toler has started four of the five games, making 24 saves while allowing nine goals.

The Eagles have faced Tennessee Tech once before, winning 1-0 on Aug. 29, 2003.

Kennesaw State brings a 2-2-1 record to Birmingham, posting wins over College of Charleston (4-3) and Alabama A&M (6-0). Alyssa Mahan, Kristin Marietta and Lauren Ruffini each have two goals scored, while Mahan also has a pair of assists. Staci Pugh has played a majority of the minutes in goal, making 22 saves to just seven goals allowed in four matches. She has a 2-1-1 record.
