Eagles Earn Fifth Seed in Southern Conference Tournament
After the completion of regular season play, the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles earned the No. 5 seed for the tournament. The Lady Eagles will face No. 4 College of Charleston on Saturday, March 6 at 9 a.m.
The Lady Mocs (16-4) claimed their 11th consecutive Southern Conference regular season championship with a 92-62 win against second place Samford on Saturday. Chattanooga will open tournament play Friday facing either No. 8 Western Carolina (6-14) or No. 9 UNC Greensboro (6-14). The Catamounts and Spartans meet in the second game of the first session on Thursday, March 4, which is slated to start at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Samford (14-6) and Appalachian State (14-6) tied for the second seed with the Bulldogs taking No. 2 due to their win against top seeded Chattanooga on November 30. The Bulldogs will take on either No. 7 Wofford (6-14) or No. 10 Elon (6-14) on Friday, March 5.
The Mountaineers will face the winner of game 3, which includes No. 6 Davidson (12-8) and No. 11 Furman (4-16).
No. 4 College of Charleston (13-7) won the tiebreaker with Georgia Southern by virtue of CofC’s win versus No. 1 Chattanooga on February 8. The Cougars and Eagles will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 6.
The semifinal and championship games will be televised on SportSouth. Sunday’s semifinal games are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2:30. The championship is set for Monday, March 8 at 5 p.m., with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship.
