Jones Transfers to Georgia Southern
STATESBORO, Ga. – Women’s basketball coach Chris Vozab announced today Briana Jones has transferred from James Madison to Georgia Southern and will join the Eagles for the 2012-13 season.
Jones will have to sit out the season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules, but she will have three seasons of eligibility remaining, beginning in the 2013-14 campaign.
A native of Powder Springs, Ga., Jones scored over 1,000 points during her prep career at Whitefield Academy, where she earned all-region honors all four seasons (honorable mention 2008, 2009, first team 2010, 2011) and was a four-time All-Cobb County Honorable Mention selection.
The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 17.8 points and 11.1 rebounds as a senior and was named to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association North All-Star Team. She was ranked 39th nationally at the post position by ESPN Hoopgurlz.
“On the court, Briana is a talented athlete who possesses great skills, experience, length, smarts and scoring ability, and has the potential to become an impact player for us as we build our program,” said Vozab. “Off the court, Bri is a proven student and a terrific young lady who will mesh well with our team and be a great addition to the Georgia Southern community.”
