Matthew Bird - 2012

Matthew Bird joins the Georgia Southern Men's Tennis staff for the 2012-13 season, serving as the team's Sport Psychology Consultant. Bird is currently in his second year of the Sport and Exercise Psychology master’s program at Georgia Southern University.

Originally from Northampton, England, Bird is no stranger to college athletics as he was a member of the golf team at Eastern Illinois University from 2006 to 2010. A team captain his senior year, Bird competed in every tournament throughout the last three years of his career. In 2008, Bird finished as the runner up in the Butler Invitational. While at Eastern Illinois, Bird majored in Psychology with a minor in Sociology.

Before moving to the United States, Bird represented his home county of Northhamptonshire at all levels, including spots on the U-16, U-18 and Men’s team.

Bird enjoys watching soccer, cricket and rugby. He is also a keen runner and ran his first marathon in the fall of 2012.

During the summer of 2012, Bird worked at a Wellspring Therapeutic Weight Loss Camp with young adults.
