Men?s Soccer defeats Appalachian State 2-1

Boone, N.C. – The Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer Team defeated Appalachian State 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium.

 

The Eagles scored two second half goals to recover from the early 1-0 deficit.

 

Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute of play off of a pass from Stephen George (Lawrenceville, Ga.). George passed the ball from the right side of the net to the left, and Smith knocked the ball in.

 

Appalachian State started the match off with an early goal in the sixth minute. Arie Muniz scored off of a pass from Steven Sassano. Sassano lofted the ball over a defender, and Muniz knocked the ball into the left side of the net.

 

The Eagles tied the match in the 68th minute. Fredrik Langseth (Lorenskog, Norway) lofted a shot over the goalies’ head from 20 yards out. Sean Sandoval (Aurora, Colo.) assisted on the goal.

 

The Mountaineers had a late scoring chance in the 87th minute of play when Chris Treible hit the cross bar.

 

Mike Gubosh (Evans, Ga.) made three saves in his third start in goal.

 

The Eagles return to action against the College of Charleston Tuesday at 7 pm in Charleston, S.C.
