Men?s Soccer to Host College of Charleston
STATESBORO, N.C. The Georgia Southern men’s soccer team will play its last home match of the season versus Southern Conference foe College of Charleston, Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Eagle Field.
The Eagles are coming into Tuesday’s clash with a 2-0 defeat at UNC Greensboro. College of Charleston recently defeated Appalachian State by a 1-0 tally at Patriots Point Field (Oct. 27).
Georgia Southern (6-9-0, 2-4-0) and College of Charleston (10-4-1, 4-1-0) have met on 14 occasions with the Cougars claiming a 12-1-1 lead. In the last meeting between the schools at Charleston, the Eagles were defeated in a 1-2 decision (Oct. 5, 2006). Georgia Southern’s lone victory over the Cougars dates back to a 3-0 decision in 1986.
The Eagles are led by freshman Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) with 12 points, including five goals and two assists. Junior forward Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) follows with 10 points, including three goals and a team high four assists. Smith ranks No. 10 in the league in both assists and assists per game (0.27). Both Clendening and Smith rank No. 4 in the game-winning goals category (2), while Clendening ranks No. 8 in goals and No. 10 in both points and points per game (0.80).
The Cougars currently sit in second place in the SoCon standings, with their lone loss coming at the hands of league leader, Furman. The Cougars are led by Kareem Yearwood with a league-leading 21 points, including a league-best 10 goals and one assist. Matt Morris follows behind with seven points, including three goals and one assist. Having started in 14 out of 15 matches, goalkeeper Corbin Waller is coming into the day’s game with 68 saves for the Cougars.
