Blondell Shoots 3-Under on the Day at SoCon Championship

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Freshman Logan Blondell matched the day’s third-lowest round (-3) in the second day of the Southern Conference Championship, Monday (Apr. 21), played at the par-72, 7,062-yard Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

The Eagles improved upon yesterday’s team performance by nine strokes, but still dropped one spot into eighth place on the team leaderboard after shooting a 7-over 295, while Wofford moved ahead of the Eagles by four strokes.

After shooting a day-low 7-under, No. 17 Chattanooga leads the 10-team field at 5-under 571. College of Charleston sits in second place, eight strokes behind the Mocs at 3-over 579, while the rest of the field holds double-figure scores over par.

Starting on the back nine tied for 34th place, Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) finished the day carding six birdies, including four consecutive on holes five through eight. He jumped up 20 spots to end the day tied for 14th place with seven others.

Pacing the individual field is Chattanooga’s Ben Rickett at 3-under 141. He holds a one-stroke lead over Western Carolina’s Matt Cook in second place at 2-under 142.

Junior Drew Lethem (Camdenton, Mo.) shot a 2-over 74 for a two-day total of 5-over 149 and a tie for 22nd place. Freshman Joe Monte (Chantilly, Va.) shot a 5-over on the day, bringing his two-day score to 9-over 153.

Junior Jordan Johnstun (Evans, Ga.) improved his first-round score, shooting a 3-over on the day to head into Tuesday’s final round at 10-over 154. Sophomore Spencer Fulford (Rocky Mount, N.C.) shot a 6-over 78 on the day and joins teammate Johnstun tied for 36th place.

The third and final round tee times for the Eagles begin at 8:40 a.m., Tuesday.
