STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern junior third baseman Hannah Farrell has been named to the NFCA's All-South Region Third Team, announced today by the organization.
Farrell hit .327 with 10 doubles, nine home runs and 21 RBI in starting all 53 games for the Eagles at third base. The Jesup, Ga., native slugged .552 and ranked among the Sun Belt Conference leaders in several categories, including home runs (t6th), slugging percentage (7th) and batting average (14th).Â
She also had a flair for the dramatic, providing game-winning hits in late-inning situations for Georgia Southern, such as a two-run walk-off home run on March 7th to defeat Detroit Mercy, 7-5, as well as an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Eagles their first road win over a nationally-ranked team, a 3-2 defeat of No. 22 Louisiana on April 21st.
"I am extremely proud of Hannah," Georgia Southern Head Softball Coach Kim Dean said. "I felt she had an outstanding season, and she was one of the contributing factors that allowed us to excel in the regular season and make it to the postseason. The ceiling is extremely high for her. I am looking forward to coaching her again and seeing how far she can take her game."
Farrell was a second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honoree as voted on by the league's coaches, and her NFCA All-Region honor is the first for a Georgia Southern player since Sarah Purvis was an All-Region pitcher in 2014.Â
