Eagles Sweep Road Trip by Downing Mercer, 6-1

MACON, GA. - The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team capped off its impressive road trip by defeating Mercer on Sunday. The Eagles now ride a two-game winning streak after defeating Presbyterian College yesterday and winning seven of nine matches against the Bears today.

The Eagles (2-2) built momentum early in the match by winning the doubles point. Cameron Williams (Norcross, Ga.) and Taylor Jones (Warner Robins, Ga.) put the team on top with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) clinched the point for the Eagles at No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 win.

The team retained its strong play when it transitioned to singles action. Junior Alexandra Langmo (Boca Raton, Fla.) didn't drop a game at No. 6 singles en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win in her first match of the season. Allison Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.) won at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0, and Williams posted an identical score at No. 5 singles to notch her second win of the day and clinch the match for the Eagles. Kitchen and Garrido won two matches on the day as well. Kitchen won by a score of 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while Garrido won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Alexis Prickett (Charleston, S.C.) narrowly fell after splitting sets and losing in a ten-point tiebreaker for the third set.

"I'm proud of the team for the way they competed this weekend," said Head Coach Amy Bonner. "We have two weeks to prepare for our home opener and the team is excited about playing at the new facility. We will try and build off of this weekend as we prepare for South Carolina State."

Up next for the Eagles is an off-week followed by their first match at their new home courts. First serve against South Carolina State is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 18.
