Track & Field Completes Day One of Niswonger Invitational
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Georgia Southern Track and Field team successfully finished up day one at the Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State University on Friday. The Eagles had five top 10 finishes in a stacked field with 60 other schools.
A one-hour weather delay did not faze veteran Jasmine Billings. In her first event of the day, the 60m Hurdles, she raced to a 10th place in 9.29, enough to qualify for the finals tomorrow. Kimberly Thomas also had a successful showing in Johnson City, Tenn. The sophomore qualified for the 400m Dash finals, finishing fourth in a field of 74 contestants with a time of 58.52.
The Eagles also saw senior Ebony Carter place for tomorrow’s 60m Dash finals, sprinting to a 12th place finish in 7.80.
Freshmen Keyanna Harris and Asleigh Rasheed showed promise for the future as they finished sixth and eighth respectively in the Triple Jump (11.49m) and High Jump (1.58m). Junior Cherelle King also finished eighth in her event, in the 400m Dash (59.34).
The invitational continues Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with the 5000k and finishes with the 4x400m Relay. Other events on the schedule are the 5000m Run, One Mile Run, Distance Medley and Long Jump.
