Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving Beats Darton at Home

Results

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team beat Darton College 155-71 on Saturday afternoon in the Recreation Activity Center. Georgia Southern won 12 out of the 13 events and improves its record to 5-2 on the year.

Junior Sara Meisenhelder highlighted an impressive overall diving performance, scoring 281.70 on the one-meter dive to qualify for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. She also beat her own old school record of 263.25 as well as the five-year-old RAC pool record of 269.01, set by North Florida’s Emily Eisenhower in 2008.

“Sara qualifying for zones is really exciting,” said Head Coach Nathan Kellogg. “We tell her all the time she’s just scratching the surface of her potential. She’s just extremely, extremely talented.”

Brittany Swanson also had a successful performance for the Eagles. The sophomore broke her personal records in both dives with new bests of 243.38 (one-meter) and 241.20 (three-meter).

Several other Eagles set personal bests. Lauren Campbell improved her old lifetime record by more than 15 seconds when she finished first with time of 10:45.08 in the 1000 Free.

“This meet we put people in events they don’t usually swim. So they may not have swum it this year or may not have swum it in a couple years,” said Kellogg. “It was kind of refreshing to do a different event for them. So I think they really got excited for it and did really well.”

More record-breaking performances came from Rebecca Alves (2:00.26, 200 Free), Sarah Schwartz (27.19, 50 Free), Megan Heller (2:11.94, 200 Fly), Rikki Babuka (55.00, 100 Free), Pirie Humphries (2:13.07, 200 Back), as well as Hannah Rogers (5:19.01, 500 Free) and Courtney Harrison (5:19.61, 500 Free). All seven Eagles swam new college bests in their respective events.

The Eagles finished first in every event but the 200 Breast. Darton’s Anna Macht came out on top in that race with a time of 2:25.78.

Today’s win brought the Eagles one step closer towards the CCSA Championships in Februay. The squad will continue to prepare when they host conference opponent UNC Asheville next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the RAC.
