STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball rolled to its third win of the season with a 79-56 thrashing of Brewton-Parker on Saturday night at Hanner Fieldhouse. GSU gets a week off for final exams before opening play in the 2012 Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic next Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Virginia Tech.

“Our chemistry is coming together and our offensive flow is coming together,” said Head Coach Charlton “C.Y.” Young. “We are still a poor rebounding team, but we’ve really got to commit to it. We’ve got to be the tough-tough runts going in there and boxing out. Our execution was better tonight and that’s what we want going into the big contests we’ve got coming up.”

Eric Ferguson led the Eagles with 18 points in the contest with 13 coming in the first half. The junior added three steals in the game as five Eagles scored in double-figures

Redshirt senior C.J. Reed went 4-for-5 from downtown to score 16 points in the game. Junior Tre Bussey added 14 points of his own to score in double-figures for the sixth time this year.

Freshman phenom Cleon Roberts opened his evening with the first six points of the game, knocking down a pair of three-pointers early. Roberts went on to score 13 points on the evening. Marvin Baynham scored in double figures for the second time this year with 11 points.

The Eagles opened the night with 11-straight points, but saw Brewton-Parker battle back to trail by just five points with just less than 10 minutes remaining in the opening period. GSU then put its foot down, outscoring the Barons 19-4 over the final nine minutes of the first half to take a 48-24 lead into the intermission.

GSU flirted with a school record for field goal shooting percentage, posting a 70.4% mark in the first half, but saw that mark tumble in the second half to 60.4% for the evening.

On the glass, GSU won the rebounding battle 33-26 with nine boards from Cameron Baskerville, matching his season-high.

The Eagles cruised to the 79-56 victory despite being out-scored 32-31 in the second half. The Barons were led by 26 points by Darrie Stephens.

Georgia Southern visits Virginia Tech next Saturday afternoon, December 15th, at 2 p.m. in the opening game of the 2012 Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. The game can be seen live on ESPN3.com. GSU then heads to Bradley for a game two nights later against the Braves.
