STATESBORO, GA.
Georgia Southern Head Men’s Basketball Coach Charlton “C.Y.” Young is proud to announce the signing of Delano Spencer and Glen Pierre to national letters of intent for the class of 2013.

“These two guys are the start of a very good recruiting class,” said Head Coach Charlton “C.Y.” Young. “Both of these are Championship people from very good families that can have very successful careers here at Georgia Southern.”

Delano Spencer is two-star shooting guard out of Norcross, Ga. He averaged 17 points per game with 3.7 assists per contest last season at Greater Atlanta Christian. A strong shooter from the perimeter, the 6-3 guard turned down offers from Auburn, Furman and St. Joseph’s.

“Delano brings a tremendous amount of versatility to our program,” said Young. “He can shoot it, he can pass it, he can defend it, he can play at both guard positions. We expect to play him at both the point and combo guard positions, but we will groom him to be a point guard exclusively. He comes from a great program at Greater Atlanta Christian and played for a legendary High School coach, Eddie Martin which means he will be prepared for the Division I level of play.“

A standout player in three sports, Spencer was a dual-threat quarterback for Greater Atlanta Christian’s football team. He also entered his senior season as a highly touted baseball prospect.

“We’re excited that he chose basketball and to commit to our University,” said Young. “He is a three-sport star and could have signed Division I in football, basketball or baseball. We’re also excited about the success he’s had at the national level. He’s competed at the national level in AAU as well as High School basketball, and he has the chance to be very successful here at Georgia Southern.”

A product of Tampa, Fla., Glen Pierre is a 6-11 center that will bring the Eagles added shot blocking ability entering the class of 2013-14. FloridaHoops.com ranked Pierre among its top-100 players in the state entering his senior season.

“Glen is the first true center that we’ve signed in over a decade at Georgia Southern,” said Young. “He’s 6-11, 210 right now and we feel like by the end of the season and through a full summer working with our program, he has the chance to be 220-225. We have not had that kind of size in the program and that kind of size that is skilled in a long time. Glen can pass it, he can shoot it, but right now he lacks physical strength and cooperative education, he just needs to get more reps on the court, but his best basketball is ahead of him."

In the offseason, Pierre transferred to Oldsmar Christian after playing his first three years of high school ball at East River High School in Orlando.

“Glen is from a tremendous family and is a tremendous person,” said Young. We feel like he has the chance to have a very good career here at Georgia Southern because of his foundation and home, his work ethic and talent. This year at Oldsmar Christian he is playing for one of the best young prep school coaches in America, Jordan Fair, and that will help him grow as a player.”
