Baseball Announces 2013 Schedule

2013 Baseball Schedule

STATESBORO, Ga. - The 2013 Georgia Southern Baseball season kicks off with a bang as the Eagles face Georgia, Florida, Indiana and Georgia Tech in the first nine games. The 56-game schedule announced by Head Coach Rodney Hennon opens with 14 of the first 16 games at J.I. Clements Stadium and also includes a trip to Clemson.

Georgia Southern opens the season at home against the first of six NCAA Regional participants from a year ago in Georgia. The Eagles welcome in the Bulldogs for a three-game series starting Friday, February 15th and running through the 17th. After a mid-week trek to Florida, GSU hosts Indiana and Xavier the next two weekends with a two-game mid-week series against Georgia Tech in between.

“It's going to be a tremendous challenge for our team,” Hennon said about the upcoming season's schedule. “Playing the tough competition early, we are going to find out a lot about our team before conference play rolls around.”

The Eagles open conference play at home on March 8th against Wofford and travel to 2012 Southern Conference Tournament Champion Samford the next weekend before traveling to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia Tech. Georgia Southern closes out the month of March with conference weekend series against Davidson and at UNCG.

“The Southern Conference continues to get stronger and stronger each and every year, and we are excited to play the teams we have on the schedule,” Hennon stated.

A mid-week trip to Jacksonville opens up the month of April before traveling to Appalachian State for a weekend series. The Eagles return home to host The Citadel the next weekend and have one more home SoCon series against Elon in April.

The conference home slate wraps up on May 3-5 against Furman, and the home finale occurs a week later against North Florida on May 14th. Before heading to Charleston for the SoCon finale on May 16-18 against College of Charleston, Georgia Southern travels to Clemson for a three-game weekend series on May10-12th.

The Southern Conference Tournament returns to Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. for a second-straight season and the third time in the tournament's history on May 23-27th.

“It's a great atmosphere at Fluor Field and its located in a great area in downtown Greenville. It's centrally located within the league and easy for a lot of fans around the conference to get to,” Hennon  said. “There are a lot nice hotels and restaurants around the park and it just makes for a great atmosphere for the tournament. We are fortunate that we have played our tournament in two great venues.”
