Chris Moore Joins Baseball’s Coaching Staff

STATESBORO, Ga. - Chris Moore joins the Georgia Southern Baseball coaching staff replacing longtime assistant coach Mike Tidick Head Coach Rodney Hennon announced Tuesday. Moore will serve as the team’s hitting coach and share recruiting duties with Hennon and pitching coach B.J. Green.

“He is going to be a very good recruiter and do a great job with our hitters,” Hennon said about his new addition to the staff. “He is going to fit in real well with the rest of our coaching staff, and we are excited to have him, Aimee, Carter and Lillee as part of our family.”

A former player under Hennon at Western Carolina, Moore spent the past two seasons as the hitting coach on Chris Pollard's staff at Appalachian State. Under his direction, the Mountaineers ranked among the nation's best in a number of offensive categories last season including batting average, doubles, home runs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

“Chris was a terrific player for us at Western Carolina,” Hennon said. “I have watched him from afar develop into an outstanding coach. Everywhere he has been the kids have developed and gotten better.”

In Moore’s two seasons with the Mountaineers, Appalachian State recorded 74 victories, the best two-year span in the program’s history since 1985-86.

He will replace one of his former coaches in Mike Tidick, who left in the fall to become a professional scout. Tidick coached alongside Hennon for 15 combined seasons at Western Carolina and Georgia Southern and was a part of five Southern Conference Championship teams at GSU.

“Mike was a big part of the success of our program for 13 years,” Hennon said about his teammate and former assistant coach. “We were very fortunate to have that type of continuity on our coaching staff. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family in his new endeavor in professional baseball.”

Moore joined the Mountaineers after a one-year stint as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at West Georgia University.

Prior to his stint at West Georgia, he spent four seasons at Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., including one year as recruiting coordinator and the final three as the program’s head coach. In 2009, his final season at Lander, he led the squad to a national ranking.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Davidson in 2003 and spent two seasons with the Wildcats.

Moore played collegiately for the Catamounts from 1996-99. The two-time All-American and four-time All-Southern Conference honoree capped his career by being named the 1999 SoCon Player of the Year, while setting school records for hits, doubles, RBI and assists. He was also inducted into WCU’s athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.

Following his collegiate career, Moore was drafted in the 11th round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies and spent four years in the Rockies’ system before joining the coaching ranks. As a pro, he was named the Rockies’ Minor League Player of the Month in April 2000 and a South Atlantic League All-Star that same season.

Moore and his wife, Aimee, have two children, Carter and Lillee.
