Athletics to Use 'Gatekeeper' Application for Student ID Cards

STATESBORO, Ga. - A software solution called "Gatekeeper," designed for the Department of Athletics by a team from Georgia Southern Business and Finance Information Technology Services, will make its debut at Saturday's season opening football game against Savannah State. Based partially on previous models of card-swiping systems, Gatekeeper allows for wireless, efficient student ID card swiping at athletics events and other campus activities.
The custom-designed application is used on laptops with card readers and will verify whether or not student ID cards are current, if student fees have been paid, if the ID card has been reported lost or stolen, and if the ID card has already been used for admittance to the venue. Gatekeeper provides gate attendants with a display of up-to-date information on the status of the ID card. The status will determine if a student is allowed entry to the event.
For this weekend's 6 p.m. game against the Tigers, current Georgia Southern and East Georgia students must bring a valid student ID for entry to the game and enter at Gates 1, 2, or 6. Gatekeeper stations will be set up at Paulson Stadium Gates 1, 2 and 6. Students planning to arrive after the second quarter will need to proceed to Gate 6 to gain entry into the game. Students who leave the venue will be required to purchase a ticket for re-entry.
Students may verify that their fees have been paid through their my.georgiasouthern WINGS account.
