To be eligible for the list, a student-athlete must hold a 3.2 GPA or better entering the winter season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the recently concluded season.
The women’s indoor track & field team led the way for Georgia Southern placing five student-athletes on the list. Melanie Trumbo paced the team with a 3.53 GPA. She was joined by Demetrise Anthony, Tiara Bivins, Laura Fuller and Kassi Lee.
In addition to the indoor track & field team, the men’s and women’s basketball teams added two student-athletes apiece to the list. Jeb Brannen, a 3.69 GPA Construction Management major, was joined by Kenith Ward of the men’s basketball team, while Jessica Geiger of the women’s basketball team led all Eagle recipients with a 3.95 GPA. Geiger, the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Georgia Southern, was joined by senior Ashley Melson.
Anthony, Fuller, Ward and Geiger were all chosen as the Scholar Athletes of the Year at Georgia Southern for their respective sports at the annual Academic Banquet at the end of April.
A total of 160 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team. The 160 student-athletes representing men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling and men’s and women’s indoor track & field, averaged a 3.54 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Western Carolina led all schools naming 23 student-athletes to the list. The Catamounts were followed by Appalachian State’s 21 and Chattanooga’s 16. Indoor track & field honored 103 student-athletes to the list (45 men, 58 women), in addition to 39 from women’s basketball.
This is the seventh year the Southern Conference has named an Academic All-Conference team by season. A complete list of honorees is attached to this story.

STATESBORO, Ga. - Just like the return of the option, everything old is new again. A new version of the 2007 tribute to the Georgia Southern Football Team, "Blue,White," will be released by songwriter and recording artist Terry "Slimm Duddy" Price II Thursday, September 2nd at 8:03 p.m. on the GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com website.
The release of "Blue,White," coincides with the start of the 2010 Eagle Football season and the announcement of "Blue,White" as the "Official Game Song" of Georgia Southern Athletics.
While the version released this week includes an introduction specific to football, another version, for use by all the Eagle athletics teams will also be available. Slimm Duddy collaborated with his producers HitSynth, consisting of Darrell Bailey, Sean White and Sidney Ingleton, on the new song. The addition of traditional Georgia Southern chants and trumpets and strings created an "epic" feel while the new introduction immediately draws in fans by replaying a great moment in Eagle history.
Slimm Duddy will perform "Blue,White" live at 4:25 p.m. Saturday during the Citizens Bank pre-game show on the Georgia Southern Radio Network. Fans are encouraged to join the pre-game show at its new location near Gate 4 of Paulson Stadium and then stay for the Eagles' arrival on the yellow school buses.
"The main reason I made the song in the first place was to show my pride for the school," said Slimm Duddy. "I also wanted to add something to Georgia Southern, for all the teams at the University. At first we made it just for football, now it's for all of the athletics teams. I have to share the passion and pride with the whole school. When everyone is behind it, it's unstoppable. It adds a dimension to it."
The official game song of Georgia Southern Athletics, "Blue, White" by Slimm Duddy and produced by HitSynth will be available for download at http://www.georgiasoutherneagles.com/flight.
