Georgia Southern Student-Athletes Honored by SoCon

SPARTANBURG. S.C. 25 Georgia Southern University student-athletes were honored by the Southern Conference for academic excellence during the 2008 spring season. A total of 243 student-athletes from eight sports and 11 institutions were honored by the Southern Conference.
The 243 student-athletes averaged a 3.54 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. This is the sixth consecutive year that the SoCon has named an All-Academic Team by season.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the recently-concluded campaign.
This is the sixth year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season.

EAGLE BASEBALL CAMPS
Join Georgia Southern Eagles head coach Rodney Hennon along with his staff for their annual Eagle Baseball Camp. Come out to beautiful J.I. Clements Stadium to work on your skills and receive expert instruction at two Eagle Baseball Camps. Georgia Southern will offer a Kids Day Camp for athletes from ages 6-12 from July 6-9, 2010.
From July 15-18, 2010, Georgia Southern will offer an Eagle Overnight Camp for athletes for ages 11-18. For more information about the camp, please call the Georgia Southern Baseball Office at (912) 478-1350.

STATESBORO, Ga. - With the ever changing world of NCAA Division I Athletics Georgia Southern University's Athletics Department engaged in a strategic planning process. Faculty, Athletic Department staff, coaches, student-athletes and key community members provided input and feedback during the creation of a new strategic plan.
The primary objectives of the new plan include:
1. To identify the core values of the department.
2. To create both a vision and mission statements that will serve as a operating philosophy for the Athletic Department.
3. To create 5 specific objectives with standards of how to achieve these objectives.
“My goal for the group was to create a working document to be used by our department each day as we work to achieve its goal of national distinction in academics and athletics,” Athletics Director Tom Kleinlein said.
Georgia Southern's mission is to exceed expectations on our continuous journey to graduate student-athletes, win championships, develop future leaders, honor our history, embrace our traditions and grow all that is “True Blue”.
The Athletic Department's objectives focus on offering academic and athletic distinction, developing future leaders, serving as a source of pride that unites all of “True Blue” and to maintain a fiscally responsible department.

Georgia Southern to Host Spring Family Weekends

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern University will be hosting two on-campus Spring Family Weekends in 2013. The University’s Office of Orientation and Parent Programs will host events on February 23rd, 2013 and March 9th, 2013.
Georgia Southern parents are invited to attend the exciting men’s basketball game vs. Furman in historic Hanner Fieldhouse. The game will begin at 7:00pm but families are welcome to arrive early at 5:30pm to enjoy a free tailgate presented by The Student Eagle Club. Family Weekend attendees will be eligible to purchase a ticket for only $5 per person. Georgia Southern students will receive free admission with a valid student ID. The deadline to register for the February 23rd weekend is February 15th at 5:00pm.
On March 9th, families are invited to attend an Eagle baseball game vs. Wofford in J.I. Clements Stadium on Georgia Southern’s campus in Statesboro. The deadline to register is March 1st at 5:00pm. This package costs $10.00 for parents and guests. Georgia Southern students will receive free admission with a valid student ID. The package includes a game ticket and a concession pass for a hot dog, popcorn, and drink.
“We are very excited to provide these Spring Family Weekends and welcome parents back to campus to visit their student,” said Erin Campbell, assistant director of admissions, orientation, and parent programs.
Campbell is encouraging parents to reserve their spot and to purchase their tickets early to ensure that there is enough space to accommodate the group. “Our family weekends continue to grow each year and we are expecting to welcome a record number of parents back to campus this year.”
