2013 Spring Promotional Dates Announced

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Athletics will host a number of promotional days throughout the 2013 spring athletics season with ticket specials available for active military members as well as Georgia Southern Faculty and Staff.

The Military Appreciation Days will provide active military members with free tickets while their families will be able to purchase tickets for just $4. The Men’s Basketball Military Appreciation Day is on February 7th against Appalachian State. The Georgia Southern Baseball team will host its Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, April 28th, in the series finale against Elon.

Faculty/Staff Appreciation Days will allow Georgia Southern faculty and staff to get a free ticket with their Georgia Southern ID, families can buy tickets for $4. The Men’s Basketball Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day is on Thursday, February 21st, against Wofford while the Women’s Basketball team will thank the school’s employees on Monday, March 4th, against Elon in the regular season finale.

Georgia Southern Baseball’s Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day is on Friday, May 3rd, as the Eagles open a three-game set against Furman at J.I. Clements Stadium.

22 Eagles Named Fall Academic All-Conference

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern earned 22 slots on the 2012 Southern Conference Fall Academic All-Conference team as announced on Thursday afternoon, December 15th.

Two Eagles, Football's Adrian Mora (Dalton, Ga.) and Volleyball's Moriah Bellissimo (Blackstone, Va.) kept their perfect 4.0 GPAs alive. Overall, seventeen SoCon student-athletes accomplished the feat.

To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

Georgia Southern was led by the Women's Soccer team which posted eight honorees, followed by Men's Soccer at five and Volleyball at four. The Eagle Cross Country team earned three nods, while the GSU Football team garnered two spots.

37 Georgia Southern Student-Athletes Named to the President's List

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Athletic Department is pleased to announce the academic progress of its student-athletes. During the spring 2009 semester, 173 student-athletes earned a 3.0 gradepoint average or better, up from 166 in the fall.

 

Members of all 15 varsity sports are represented on the list of student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or better.

 

Georgia Southern’s student-athlete success did not end at the 3.0 GPA mark. They also were represented on both the Dean’s and President’s Lists.

 

The President's List which honors those students who earn a 4.0 GPA during the semester, held 37 student-athletes.

 

12 of Georgia Southern's varsity sports were represented on the President's List, with the seven teams placing four student-athletes each on the list. Swimming & Diving, Men's Tennis, Men's Soccer, Football, Softball, Women's Soccer and Women’s Basketball all placed four student-athletes on the President's List.

 

Georgia Southern also had 51 student-athletes named to the Dean’s List which includes those students with GPAs ranging from 3.5-3.99.

 

Student-Athletes from 13 different varsity sports were represented on the Dean’s List. Track & Field, Swimming & Diving and Softball eached placed seven representatives on the list which was the most of any sport.

32 Student-Athletes Named to Spring Academic All-SoCon List

Statesboro, Ga. – Georgia Southern had 32 student-athletes representatives to the 2008-2009 Spring Academic All-Southern Conference.

 

Students-athletes eligible for the list must hold a 3.2 grade point average or better entering the spring season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the recently concluded season.

 

Student-athletes who led the way in GPA for Georgia Southern were Eagles’ Softball player, Amanda Glover, Biology major, carried a perfect 4.0, Men’s Tennis player, Thomas Bekkers, 3.93 GPA Economics major, and Women’s Tennis player, Melanie Rolle, 3.89 GPA Broadcasting major.

 

The 320 student-athletes from all 12 Southern Conference institutions representing women’s and men’s tennis, baseball, softball, men’s and women’ golf and track and field, averaged a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

6th Annual Hanner Hooligans Tailgate!

 You are invited to Hanner Fieldhouse for the Sixth Annual Hanner Hooligans Tailgate. On Saturday, January 26, all Eagle fans are invited to a complimentary tailgate in the Hanner parking lot prior to tip-off of the women's game. Women's coach Rusty Cram and Men's coach Jeff Price will be on hand and the men's and women's teams will stop by for a meet-and-greet.

 

GUS, the Hoop Troop, and the Georgia Southern Cheerleaders will also be in attendance. Game one of the doubleheader tips off at 5 p.m. as the Lady Eagles take on the Catamounts of Western Carolina. The men will follow at 7:30 as they square off against Furman.
