STATESBORO, Ga. - "By the Numbers" spotlights fun numbers each week, usually tied into an athletics team with statistics, rankings and other interesting items of note during our Eagles' seasons. This week, the list of numbers features Homecoming activities.
2: Of the 29 previous Homecoming games, the number of games that have gone to overtime. The most recent overtime game was last year when the Eagles came back from a 14-0 deficit to defeat previously undefeated and top-ranked Appalachian State 21-14.
17: Seventeen acts from 12 different organizations competed in the Homecoming Week Step Show.
21: GSU Idol, Georgia Southern's version of American Idol, featured 21 finalists vying for the title, including Eagle Football defensive end Terico Agnew.
24: Twenty-four candidates are on the ballots for Georgia Southern's Homecoming Queen, King, Duchess and Duke.
47: The largest margin of victory in a Homecoming game as Georgia Southern posted a 54-7 win over the Mountaineers on Homecoming, October 16, 2004.
79.3: Georgia Southern Football has won 79.3 percent of its Homecoming games in the modern era. Prior to 1982, Homecoming was celebrated during the basketball season.
90: More than 90 entries, including floats, crazy cars and walking banners, will participate in the Homecoming Parade on Friday, November 4th. The one-mile long parade route starts at Paulson Stadium and ends on Sweetheart Circle. The parade begins at 4 p.m.
952: An average of 952 hot dogs are sold at each Georgia Southern home Football game, one of the most popular items at the Concessions stands. Eagle Dining Services offers more than 30 items on the concourses, including hamburgers and cheeseburgers, nachos, shaved ice and ice cream.
2000: Georgia Southern students donated more than 2000 cans during the "Sculpt it for Hungry" Homecoming week event.
2007: The 2007 season was the last time the Eagles faced The Citadel on Homecoming and Georgia Southern took the 21-17 win.
499,724: Since Football returned in 1982, nearly half a million people have attended Homecoming games.
