Eagles Face Georgia Tech in Tuesday Doubleheader
STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball wraps-up a five-game road swing on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader at Georgia Tech. The Eagles lead the Southern Conference at 11-1 while Georgia Tech ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference at 9-3 in league play and 27-16 overall. The doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. from Tech's Mewborn Field.
Last weekend the Eagles took a three-game sweep over UNCG in Greensboro. In Saturday's weekend finale, the Eagles took a 10-2 victory in six innings. Junior (Clyo, Ga.) hit a pair of home runs in the series. In Friday's second game the Eagles scored six runs in the third inning, matching the most runs in a single inning this year for the Eagles.
Georgia Southern is 12-50 all-time against Georgia Tech will try to snap a four-game skid against the Yellow Jackets in the doubleheader. The Eagles last victory over the Yellow Jackets came in 2009 with a 6-5 victory in Atlanta. During the fall season, Georgia Southern downed Georgia Tech twice at Eagle Field en route to an 8-0 record the fall.
(Rincon, Ga.) leads the Eagles with a .444 batting average and a .718 slugging percentage. Her average ranks third all-time at Georgia Southern, while her slugging percentage ranks second on the single-season chart. (Baxley, Ga.) leads the Eagles with seven home runs and 28 RBI to go with a .314 average.
(Warner Robins, Ga.) anchors the Eagle pitching staff with a 13-6 record including a win in all six of her league starts. She has fanned 151 batters and is holding opposing batters to a .172 average. Freshman (Warner Robins, Ga.) picked up her ninth win of the season against no losses. She has a 1.52 ERA in 69.0 innings and has allowed just 48 hits this season.
Georgia Tech is led by this week's ACC Player of the Week, Kelsi Weseman at a .377 batting average. She has a team-high nine home runs and a .783 slugging percentage. Hope Rush has tossed 30 of Tech's 43 games and has a 18-10 record. Rush has a 2.19 ERA and is hitting .309 with seven home runs this year.
This weekend Georgia Southern returns home to face College of Charleston at Eagle Field. The three-game set begins on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. and Sunday's finale starting at 1 p.m.
